The Boite a Histoire was founded in 2017 by a group of young public historians to help connect academic history to the general public in France.
La Boîte à Histoire aims to create experiences of history. Its activities rely on a cultural mediation to stimulate an audience as diverse as possible to get involved with history. Starting with local, national and global histories, and closely informed by cutting-edge historical research and inspired by experimental archaeology, La Boîte à Histoire organises events and activities that are out of the beaten track: guided tours, pedagogical workshops in partnership with universities, museums, media, local authorities and private institutions.
La Boîte à Histoire thus wants to develop a cultural practice that encompasses both a social and pedagogical dimension. By mediating between academia and audiences outside the university, it hopes to engage with as many people as possible to help them discover their own historical awareness.
